I know what you’re thinking- another coffee post? Really? Well, this is not your average coffee related post! This is the what you should know charcoal lattes post! Charcoal has been a hot health topic lately due to it’s detoxifying properties, but the verdict is still out on whether it’s great to be eating.
One of the more trendy and common items I’ve been seeing on menus has been the charcoal latte. I was skeptical at first and even a little nervous to try it (I had no idea what to expect with the taste!) abut it ended up being quite delish! The frothed milk is infused with charcoal and lavender, so it has more of a floral note than anything. You don’t taste the charcoal at all and there’s no limit on the kinds of milk you can make it with, so it’s good for even the dairy sensitive!
Disclaimer! Regardless of the health benefits or not, I recommend trying one! They really are a great warm, soothing drink when it’s cold outside! (Like today ☃️)
If you plan to drink a lot of these bad boys, there are a few things you should keep in mind!
- Charcoal does have many health benefits- it’s a detoxifying agent, it can alleviate bloating and can promote a healthy digestive system.
- If you drink a lot of coffee and plan to have a few of these bad boys, be mindful that too much of anything isn’t good for you. The detoxifying qualities of charcoal are non discriminative, so ingesting too much charcoal can also remove some beneficial nutrients from our systems.
- Due to its detoxifying nature, it can remove benefits to medications being taken by the drinker. So if you’re on any medications, better to go for a regular latte instead of a charcoal one.
So try one! But I wouldn’t recommend swapping out your regular daily coffees for charcoal infused lattes
