I shared a quick astrology post to my Instagram the other day, and it got quite a few questions from people asking for more information. What was astrology? What was mercury retrograde? How can this possibly impact my mood or surroundings? Well, these are all really good questions. Some, I have answers to, others, not so much. The truth is, I am not as well versed in astrology as I would like to be. I have been more and more interested in it over the last year or so, and I am still just scratching the surface of understanding it.
It actually all started during a mercury retrograde. For some reason, everything I would try to express to people was being misunderstood, I would hit send on an email and realize I probably should have watched my tone a bit, and I just couldn’t figure out why all of these miscommunications were happening. Then someone jokingly said to me “Well, that’s mercury retrograde for you!”
My interest was immediately piqued and I started doing research. I was floored at what I was reading. Mercury essentially rules all types of communication, so during a retrograde (when Mercury passes the Earth and appears to spin backwards) it’s no wonder all things comms get tricky.
I want to reiterate that I am not an expert when it comes to astrology, I’ve just done a bit of research on this particular subject to make sense of things. Mercury Retrograde happens 3 times a year, and the third retrograde began yesterday and will end on November 3rd. During this time, you may be faced with a lot of tension, and heightened emotions. Mercury retrograde does however provide a good opportunity for breakthrough thinking, innovation, mindfulness and working with an expert to achieve your full potential.
The key to navigating the retrograde is recognizing it’s happening, and being more mindful of how you communicate and also the communication coming from others. You’re more likely to be hurt or offended by someone else during these times than usual, but instead of taking it to heart, use the time to reflect and re-evaluate.
I will leave you with a few thoughts to help you navigate your way through these next few weeks. The key is awareness and caution, and you will be A-OK!
- Review contracts and legal documents carefully before signing
- Read emails, text messages and documents before sending
- Confirm all dates, plans, meetings and appointments.
- Pause, breathe and think before speaking
- Practice forgiveness
